Shisham tree
Sheesham plants (Dalbergia sissoo), locally known as Tali in Punjab, Pakistan, is a fast-growing, hardwood tree widely valued for its strong and durable timber. Commonly found along canals, roadsides, and agricultural lands, Sheesham plays an important role in rural life—providing shade, quality wood for furniture and construction, and even fodder for livestock. Its resistance to termites makes it especially popular in carpentry. However, in recent years, dieback disease has posed a threat to its health in some regions. Despite this, Sheesham remains one of the most important trees in Punjab’s natural and economic landscape.
